Biography

My philosophy of care is rooted in the belief that every patient deserves a bespoke surgical strategy. Precision in the operating theatre is matched only by the compassion offered in the clinic, ensuring that medical excellence translates into long-term quality of life.

Mr Azhar Hussain is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at St George’s Hospital, London. He graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Cambridge and went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Oxford, followed by a Master’s degree at Imperial College London.

He undertook his higher specialist cardiothoracic surgical training in the London Deanery, having ranked first in the highly competitive national selection process. During his final years of specialist training, he completed a dedicated fellowship in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and an observership at the renowned Leipzig Heart Centre, focusing on advanced minimal-access cardiac procedures.

Mr Hussain was first appointed as a Consultant at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, becoming one of the youngest appointed cardiac surgeons at the age of 33. He subsequently moved to St George’s Hospital, London, to further develop and expand his practice in minimally invasive heart surgery.

His specialist interests include mitral valve repair and the management of coronary artery disease, with a strong emphasis on less invasive strategies that optimise recovery while maintaining the highest standards of surgical quality.

Mr Hussain has authored more than 30 peer‑reviewed publications, regularly reviews manuscripts for international journals, and has presented his work at both national and international conferences.

He is fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC number: 7411798), a member of the European Association for Cardio‑Thoracic Surgery and the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
